PictureTrail Activity

Today in class we worked on sites that can help students construct picture activities. There were three sites and the site that we worked on was www.picturetrail.com. We were suppose to learn about this site; what it offers, what it can do, basically, to know about it. Then we had to come up with a story (fable, fairy tale, legends, etc.) and take pictures on campus to tell about our story. For our group, we did a story based on St. Patrick's Day. The title of our story was "Lucky". Then we had to upload the pictures to the site that we worked on and present it to the class. Our site was alright. I would rate it a 5 from a scale of 1-10 only because it had problems when we tried viewing the finished product and when you add captions to the pictures we couldn't edit it.

Creating Puzzles Online

Today in class we worked on creating different types of puzzles that children can use and have fun with and so as teachers. This website was free you do not need to sign up for both sites. We first did a wordsearch puzzle. On this site, all we had to do was type in the Title of our puzzle then start typing in the words (15) separating it with commas. Then hit create my puzzle. It's that easy.

The other site was to have us create a Crossword Puzzle. This was really easy! All we had to do was type in words on the left column a and hints on the right column. Then hit create my puzzle and it comes out looking like the image above. It's amazing. Easy and fast for teachers to create on any theme that they are working on. Puzzles are also fun for kids to do especially when you have them make it on their own. These websites for creating puzzles is a very friendly website that even students can work with. It's really simple and doesn't take a lot of time to do! I'm glad that I was introduced to these sites and only wished that I could have known about them earlier!!!! I had to create my own crossword and wordsearch puzzles from scratch 2 semesters ago. If I had known about these sites, my life would've been less chaotic! LOL! Great Sites!!!

Webquest February 14, 2009

I believe that a Webquest is a way to put your assignments and lesson plans online for everyone to see. It is a way to share your lessons with your students without to just lecture. With the webquest, there's already a format made for your assignment and lesson plans which includes, the title of you lesson, the introduction, the task, the process, evaluation, conclusion, and a teacher's page. It's already been set for you to use. You can upload images. I really enjoyed this assignment because it was really helpful. Very user friendly. I would use the webquest site in my classroom by posting my lessons online and presenting it to the class.

Timeline February 14, 2009

"Happy Valentines Day to all!" Today, in class we worked on timelines. We used a free online source (right) to create a timeline of our life using 8 events that happened in our life. The one thing that I liked about this online software is that it is "FREE" Another thing that i liked was that we didn't have to create a timeline, it was already made, we just had to plug in the dates and the description of events. I also liked how we are able to print it out. I would use timelines on line in my classroom by first printing out a blank timeline with a topic on maybe social studies. Only have the dates of the terms that each president was in office and have students plug in the names of the Presidents on the right side. I would also do an activity like what we did today. A Life Timeline. Have students do their own Likfe Timeline but limit the events to 3. This online source is very useful. I'm glad I was introduced to it!

The image to the left is another free online source called www.xtimeline.com that allows anyone to create timelines. All you need to do is to sign up for it and you can go right away to create any timeline you wish. This site compared to the other, I prefer to use because you're not really limited. You can download imgaes that go along with your events in your timeline. The teach-nology timeline website does not really have much to do in but it is simple to work with. Simple os better. Less is more. The one problem with xtimeline is that, there's so much that is required to do. Like for example, tags for each event is a "must" to enter inorder for the event to be saved. But other than that, I would reccomend both sites to others and would use it in my classroom.
