Reflection

1) Did this course meet your expectations? Explain?
* This course did meet my expectations! I learned a lot in this class that I can use in my classroom. I knew that Educational Technology was about integrating technology into the classrooms but i was not aware of the different websites that are out there that teachers can use to make their day a little easier!

2) Why do you think this course should be required for all ED majors?
* I think that it should be offered to ED majors but not limited to other students or anyone else. This class needs to be taught to everyone who will come on contact with technology and that's obviously everyone. Some teachers don't even know how to simply create a powerpoint presentation, technology is changing and continues to do so.

3) How will you implement technology into your future classroom?
*I would implement technology into my classroom as much as i can. When doing my ED 471 practicum in a kinder class, they are using a technological equipment called an ELMO. Even in kindergarten, they are starting! Don't wait until its too late to teach it to your students. I would use all the online websites that we learned about in class for everything that i can.

Overall, this class was awesome! If it weren't for this class, I wouldn't be aware of the online websites that are available for anyone and the best thing about them is that they are free.

Working With Weebly

The assignment was to work on a technological portfolio on a website called "WEEBLY". It's an online website that allows you to do somewhat of a resume online. It's really simple and easy to work with. You can upload pictures, add pages so that it separates the subjects like tabs. You can upload links and there are many themes and backgrounds that you can use or make one of your own. Weebly was fun working with and so easy. This website and assignment helped me kill 2 birds with one stone. I had to include my blog for ED 480 and now that I know about this site, I can easily make one for my ED 471. I liked working with this site because it allows me to add on anything like a blog onto it and it is easy to access and at the same time it builds my portfolio. This site, I would definitely use in the future to allow off island jobs accessible to my resume. I don't have to call or fax ar anything just a simple email. I would also use this in my class for my students to start creating thier own portfolios and this is a perfect way of assessment as well.

Eluminate Live

Elluminate live was really fun and interesting to work with. There were a lot of problems thought that I encountered. Like for one, I was 15 minutes delayed with the presentation but not with the chat. It was cool to upload anything to the screen and the students online can click on the links that was shown on the screen and the best part of Elluaminte live is that we don't have to be in class for a guest speaker. Our guests speakers were off island and we were still able to gain new knowledge about technology from experts around the world. On Elluminate Live we are not limited to guests speakers. Another problem would have to be getting set and ready with the login in and preparing the head set and the mic to work. This problem was probably the most that we encountered. Other than that, this was a fun activity!

Slideshare Presentation

For this Presentation it was fun using the slide share online program. The only problem with slide share is that if you upload your presentations from a 2007 software it will not look exactly how it would. Slideshare would have to upload or update their software system.

PictureTrail Activity

Today in class we worked on sites that can help students construct picture activities. There were three sites and the site that we worked on was www.picturetrail.com. We were suppose to learn about this site; what it offers, what it can do, basically, to know about it. Then we had to come up with a story (fable, fairy tale, legends, etc.) and take pictures on campus to tell about our story. For our group, we did a story based on St. Patrick's Day. The title of our story was "Lucky". Then we had to upload the pictures to the site that we worked on and present it to the class. Our site was alright. I would rate it a 5 from a scale of 1-10 only because it had problems when we tried viewing the finished product and when you add captions to the pictures we couldn't edit it.

Creating Puzzles Online

Today in class we worked on creating different types of puzzles that children can use and have fun with and so as teachers. This website was free you do not need to sign up for both sites. We first did a wordsearch puzzle. On this site, all we had to do was type in the Title of our puzzle then start typing in the words (15) separating it with commas. Then hit create my puzzle. It's that easy.

The other site was to have us create a Crossword Puzzle. This was really easy! All we had to do was type in words on the left column a and hints on the right column. Then hit create my puzzle and it comes out looking like the image above. It's amazing. Easy and fast for teachers to create on any theme that they are working on. Puzzles are also fun for kids to do especially when you have them make it on their own. These websites for creating puzzles is a very friendly website that even students can work with. It's really simple and doesn't take a lot of time to do! I'm glad that I was introduced to these sites and only wished that I could have known about them earlier!!!! I had to create my own crossword and wordsearch puzzles from scratch 2 semesters ago. If I had known about these sites, my life would've been less chaotic! LOL! Great Sites!!!

Webquest February 14, 2009

I believe that a Webquest is a way to put your assignments and lesson plans online for everyone to see. It is a way to share your lessons with your students without to just lecture. With the webquest, there's already a format made for your assignment and lesson plans which includes, the title of you lesson, the introduction, the task, the process, evaluation, conclusion, and a teacher's page. It's already been set for you to use. You can upload images. I really enjoyed this assignment because it was really helpful. Very user friendly. I would use the webquest site in my classroom by posting my lessons online and presenting it to the class.

Timeline February 14, 2009

"Happy Valentines Day to all!" Today, in class we worked on timelines. We used a free online source (right) to create a timeline of our life using 8 events that happened in our life. The one thing that I liked about this online software is that it is "FREE" Another thing that i liked was that we didn't have to create a timeline, it was already made, we just had to plug in the dates and the description of events. I also liked how we are able to print it out. I would use timelines on line in my classroom by first printing out a blank timeline with a topic on maybe social studies. Only have the dates of the terms that each president was in office and have students plug in the names of the Presidents on the right side. I would also do an activity like what we did today. A Life Timeline. Have students do their own Likfe Timeline but limit the events to 3. This online source is very useful. I'm glad I was introduced to it!

The image to the left is another free online source called www.xtimeline.com that allows anyone to create timelines. All you need to do is to sign up for it and you can go right away to create any timeline you wish. This site compared to the other, I prefer to use because you're not really limited. You can download imgaes that go along with your events in your timeline. The teach-nology timeline website does not really have much to do in but it is simple to work with. Simple os better. Less is more. The one problem with xtimeline is that, there's so much that is required to do. Like for example, tags for each event is a "must" to enter inorder for the event to be saved. But other than that, I would reccomend both sites to others and would use it in my classroom.

Class Assignment on January 31, 2009

Today in class we looked at different word processors on the internet. There were 3 different sites that Mr. Jenkins wanted us to check out. We split the class into 3 groups according to the 3 different sites. For my group we had the ThinkFree site. This site compared to the other word processor sites was the only one that offered more than the word processor and movie, it offered a spreadsheet and a PowerPoint presentation. Then each group shared what they found on their site. The 3 word processing sites are useful in the classroom but is limited to a lot of things. Then we worked on Google Docs, a site that requires a google account and you can invite your students to work on assignments all together at the sametime in class. Then we worked on updating our blog profiles.
